TEDxMaastricht talk – Lawrence Sherman

A comedian talking about Continuing Medical Education. How does that work? Well very interactively. Students don’t know what they don’t know. Also doctors, nurses don’t. But patients can help.
Now students follow 4 years of school, 4 years of training and then continue with 40 years of practice without taking any required classes. How strange is that. Now: 2 years of science + 2 years of patient contact during medical school. Medicine needs life long learning and collaborative (eg. with patients) education. Because, what are the needs of patients beyond of the knowledge doctors have? This currently is a big black hole. Solution: we have to involve the patient from day one in medical school!
