CZ is looking for smart games to improve care
Competition: up to €200.000 (so over $260K) for production-costs of winning game concept in health care.
How can you make games that create and improve affordable health care? That is the key question for the conference Games Health Europe on 24 and 25 October 2011 for the first time in Amsterdam is organized. Healthcare professionals and game developers are invited to step up with their great ideas for game applications for health(care). The best idea is granted with a budget sponsored by CZ health insurance up to € 200.000 productions costs available for the game to actually be produced. Smart Care
The competition “The Future of Health Award 2012″ is a joint initiative of CZ healthcare insurance, TEDxMaastricht and Games for Health Europe. The competition aims to a further development of ideas around games in healthcare. Jurriaan van Rijswijk, gaming expert and director of Games for Health Europe calls for doctors, nurses, researchers, game developers, students and publishers to step up with their ideas and topics in which a serious game could contributes to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare. Van Rijswijk: “Everyone can participate, the only requirement is that your idea can be pitched in five minutes at the Games for Health Europe conference. An international jury will nominate five ideas which eventually are selected for the Grand Finale at TEDxMaastricht on April 2, 2012. ”
Game as therapy
The use of games in healthcare is still in its early stages but has enormous potential. CEO Wim van der Meeeren CZ: “By serious games, people can get better knowledge about their disease, and help during recovery or even prevent a disease. Think of games for the obese or games for psychoeducation. In mental health games you can use it as therapy, for example in the treatment for soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or rehabilitation. “.
Lucien Engelen, (Radboud University Medical Centre) founder & curator of TEDxMaastricht:” Serious games are incredibly important for healthcare. For patients, their families and informal care, but also for healthcare professionals for simulations, playful games and even patient education.
According to French research firm IDATE, the market for serious games care explode. It expects an annual growth of 47%, with a total of 15 billion euros in 2015
