Pitch Night Application

Do you have an idea worth spreading? This is your chance!

TEDx Maastricht gives regional talents the opportunity to be considered as a potential speaker for the main TEDxMaastricht 2016 event happening on Monday 17 October 2016. And what an opportunity that is! Former Pitch Night winner, Anna Verhulst had the chance to give a talk about “The recipe to losing weight” during TEDxMaastricht 2014 and the video of her talk has now hit 270,000+ views on YouTube! (watch her talk).

Paul Ruskens, another Pitch Night winner, was given the opportunity to go on stage during the 2013 edition (watch his talk) and he was so good that he was invited to come back the following year to tell us why “The majority is always wrong” (watch his talk). And also of course, last year’s winner, Peter van de Graaf, dazzled the crowd with his presentation “Choosing a world where every child is desired” (watch his talk). The next Pitch Night winner could be YOU!

The theme of this year’s edition is “A matter of perspective: it’s all in the mind”

To find out who will receive the chance to perform on the main stage in October, our curation team will evaluate all applicants and give all pitchers the possibility to present a 3-minute sneak preview of their idea during the Pitch Night.

Alongside the jury, the audience will also have a word to say. So, even if you do not want to present, join us for the night to have a sneak peak of our main event! And who knows, perhaps have a chat with a future TED celebrity!

In the end, the speaker(s) who will receive the most votes from our jury, as well as from the audience,  will earn a high chance to be invited to join our main stage on Monday 17 October.

What makes a perfect TED talk?

Having a great idea is nice, and being able to present it well will make it sound even greater. TED and TEDx talks are all about shining a bright light of insight onto the seemingly ordinary to uncover the extraordinary. So, how do you capture a little of that magical quality when creating your own presentations?

We found a great article that will help you make your presentation wow. And in case you start doubting your abilities, here is a quote from the late great Muhammad Ali.

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” – Muhammad Ali (1942-2016)

We challenge you to take this opportunity to share your idea with the world. Be bold, be creative, be extraordinary! Make the impossible possible and join our Pitch Night on Monday 27 June.

We open our doors at the Brandweerkantine at 19:30 and the first speaker will get on stage at 20:00.

Who knows, your idea could be our next headline!
