A driven, resilient and honest person. An outspoken and passionate feminist who loves with her whole heart and fiercely embraces all the ups and downs of her life. It’s just a short description of the kind of person Chiara Lisowski is.

“My talk at TEDxMaastricht 2018 covers the subject of domestic abuse. I chose this topic because violence against women is still seen as a taboo and more specifically a ‘women’s issue’ when really, it is everyone’s problem. I would like to challenge the audience to dispel any stereotypes they may have about abuse. If I can help just one person free themselves of an abusive relationship with my words, then that would be one less person living in unjust suffering. In the words of Maya Angelou: ‘Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women’.”

In Chiara’s eyes, there are many changes in this world that need to be made. “Where to start? I would like to live in a world where equal rights are the norm. Where the arts are not the last priority on government’s agendas, where more is invested in the prevention of social issues rather than react to them. Where good education is accessible to all. Finally, I would like to live in a world in which intimate partner violence is a thing of the past. Why all these changes? Because these are a few important changes that could shift societies in a more positive direction to the benefit of all.”
