TEDxMaastricht theme 2019: GRASSROOTS
This year TEDxMaastricht will welcome an inspiring line-up of change-makers, creatives and activists who will give ‘the talk of their lives’ at the red TEDx dot at Theater aan het Vrijthof. From small personal stories and scientific breakthroughs to innovations, inspiration and much more.
Maastricht is a city with true European DNA. Since 1992 the city has been inextricably linked to Europe as the Maastricht Treaty sealed Europeans’ commitment to develop our collective identity. The signing of this milestone for European integration started a great, dynamic experiment, which carries on to this day. TEDxMaastricht wants to explore our collective future with the theme Grassroots as an inspiration for our speakers, as a challenge to our audience and to encourage them to get moving.
Why? Grassroot initiatives ascend from below, arise spontaneously and often on a local level around an idea, theme, concern or interest from the community. Today’s Europe faces many challenges of climate change, rising populism, Brexit and radicalization; a time where people are becoming increasingly active in making their voices heard. Grassroots ensure that our collective future as Europeans, that for many people seems a remote concern from daily live, becomes more tangible, recognizable, human and most of all a personal matter. Grass roots: how small deeds can build a movement. After all, Europe is much more than politics, Brussels or the EU. It is about a collective identity, a collective future where every voice can make a difference.
